CARBON NEUTRALITY
At the current time, the forests managed by The Navigator Company have a carbon stock, excluding carbon in the soil, of 6.1 million tons of CO2, a figure that has remained stable, while showing a downward trend, thanks to the Company’s sustainable management model. The Navigator Company was one of the first European companies to commit to carbon neutrality, in an industrial context, by 2035, some 15 years ahead of the targets set by the European Union and Portugal.

Figures in thousands of tons

Repeated measures have enabled CO2 emissions to fall by 86%, that is, by 667 ktCO2 per year from 2018 to 2035. The remaining 107 ktCO2 of emissions will be offset.
INDUSTRY BEST PRACTICES ALREADY IMPLEMENTED BY NAVIGATOR:
-
87% of the materials used are renewable;
-
Recovery of 87% of waste through energy generation, composting, and incorporation into higher-value products. By 2035, the goal is to raise this bar to 90%;
-
79% of the energy used is from renewable sources in Portugal – Forest residues and process waste are reused to produce energy and steam;
-
Approximately 99% of the water used is returned to the environment, after treatment according to the most demanding control parameters.
THE 4 MAIN GOALS OF THE ROADMAP TO CARBON NEUTRALITY ARE:
-
100% of electricity production from renewable sources;
-
86% reduction in direct scope CELE emissions;
-
37.5% reduction in scope 3 GHG emissions associated with the value chain.
